I really need to get this out of my mind
On January 20, a little past eleven in the evening, my sister and I were on our way home from Quezon City. We’ve already reached Las Pinas and were driving by CAA road. We’ve just passed Southville and McDonald’s. As we approach a slight curve, we see a guy in the middle of the road, waiting for the road to clear so that he could cross. Suddenly, a car from the other direction of the road comes zooming in. Really, really fast. The car was moving so fast that I barely even saw what the car was… and then this car hits the guy.
Then so many things were happening at the same time. My sister suddenly stopped driving, just a few meters from where the guy was standing. The guy flew to the ground, along with the car’s side mirror that fell off during the hit. Then that car DROVE AWAY. We had just witnessed a hit-and-run. We screamed and shouted for help. Other people who were also at the area stopped and stared. My sister still kept shouting and motioning the men who saw to help the unconscious guy. We started getting so frustrated that no one was doing anything. We even parked at the side for a while so that my sister could get out of the car and ask for help and offer money in case that someone could catch a cab to bring the guy to the hospital. The police came as well. Still, no one could do anything.
So we drove to LPDH (which was really near) to again ask for help, but THERE WAS NO AMBULANCE. WHAT A HOSPITAL. We were so unsettled that we saw this poor guy get hit right in front of us, yet we couldn’t immediately get him to the hospital, which was so damn near. We kept bugging the guards in the E.R. (we didn’t get out of the car anymore, our parents called & kept telling us to go home already) to call for an ambulance and they just kept saying that they already reported it, but still no one was coming. How frustrating. It was already past 20 minutes since the guy got hit when finally, another witness (who was driving ahead or behind us before the incident, idk) was able to get medics to use his car to get the guy. Thank God. We finally headed home after seeing the guy being brought inside the car.
Even if we had nothing to do with this guy, we just couldn’t leave him there lying on the ground. Even if we were not the ones who hit him, we couldn’t help but feel responsible. We were the ones who really saw him get hit. We really wish we could’ve done more. What really bothered us was how freaking slow the rescue was. How there could’ve been a freaking ambulance in a matter of two minutes. How the police and almost everyone else who was there was not able to do anything right away. It was so agonizing.
I’m really praying that the victim will make it. And that the side mirror of the a-hole who hit the guy would help in tracking him down. I’m really praying because I know that’s the only thing I could do now.
